Bare Republic is mineral sunscreen for people who care about their body. When we started working together, they had a great proposition––thoughtfully formulated, environmentally conscious, no nasty chemicals. But as we uncovered, the entire category sells with this product messaging. So to outshine everyone, we created an anthem instead.

Campaign strategy

The way we saw it, sunscreen is much more than its life-saving benefits (and that’s saying something). It’s a facilitator of warm memories, allowing parents and kids to experience the outdoors together. But there’s just one problem with this idealized vision: screen time is getting in the way of sunscreen time.

Campaign strategy

“Screens expose young people to fabrications of lifestyle that make everything look perfect. But that’s not how life really is. Once you get outside, things are messy. Things are imperfect. They might even burn you. But that’s the beauty of life. So with Bare Republic we wanted to encourage families to get outdoors, enjoy the ups-and-down and swap their screens for sunscreen.”

What does that mean for an anthemic campaign? It meant being real. Casting real families. Shooting them in real situations. Celebrating the true serendipity of life. Illuminating the joy of being outdoors. And celebrating everybody under the sun.
